This one has been a long time coming. Our good friend Adrian from Break Free in Houston, TX really looks out for his son Little D (Break Free, HaviKORO) when it comes to his birthday parties. Little D loves Hiphop and his last two birthday parties have both been very Hiphop inspired and have taken place at the Break Free Community Center (which needs your support!). What’s really dope about it is, both cakes have been inspired by SPEN1’s artwork. We’ve seen his work on flyers, t-shirts, walls, flyers he didn’t even design (haha!), stickers, posters, even tattoos. But this one definitely takes the “cake”, haha!
The first cake was in 2012 and drew inspiration from the Outbreak 6 Hiphop Festival flyer. Whoever did this definitely had to put in some major work to put this together. They definitely captured the intricacies of the original design. The Boombox looks almost real as well. Let us know what you think of this one!
Little D recently celebrated his 12th birthday and this time they busted out with a version of Spen’s hiphop Troopha that was released as a limited edition print earlier this year. This one was a much more simple design but still executed nicely. We caught up with Little D during Texas Illest and hooked him up with a birthday gift.
We asked Spen what he thinks about his work being displayed on cakes and this is what he had to say:
“I think it’s pretty crazy! It’s hard enough to create the flyers so I can’t imagine how much work went into making a cake out of it. I wanna see them do one of the characters next time..lol!” – SPEN1
It’s dope to see the youth so into our culture to the point they want Hiphop Birthday parties. Shout outs to Adrian and his wife for supporting their son to the fullest and of course all the best to Little D. We wish you many more Hiphop birthday parties to come!
