Remember the name: Victor Montalvo Documentary – Behind the story.

Late Sept. 2015, Red Bull contacted Victor and I (Mex) about taking part in a documentary featuring Victors preparation for Red Bull BC One 2015 Finals in Rome. Vic and I spoke about it, but declined. At the time, Victor was preparing not just to win BC One but to put together the greatest competitive years in the history of our community. Lets take it back a few months.

Aug. 2015. Victor had just won the Red Bull BC One N. America Finals in Orlando Florida. The event was incredible, the attention and hype it received was surreal. 2 weeks after BC One N. America Finals, I visited Victor at his home in Kissimmee FL. I had a very serious talk with him and his dad. I remember telling him that he had the potential to achieve something no one has ever done. I told him if he applied himself not only would he win the BC One World Finals, but Silverback Open 2015, Freestyle Session World Finals 2015 and Undisputed 2015.

Red Bull BC One N. America Finals 2015: Victor vs Ben

Early September the training started. Victor, Loose Lee (friend), myself and Vic’s dad (would hang out with us and watch the training) hit up Vic’s practice spot almost daily. We worked on drilling fundamentals, stacking freezes, power, dissecting footage and breaking down scenarios in battles. Vic devoted and being as gifted as he is picked things up quickly and effortlessly. Vic was ready.

SILVERBACK OPEN 2015 FINALS.

Before we continue lets go back to November 2014. Red Bull BC One World Finals in France. I want to show you 2 battles.
1st battle is from the Top 8 at BC One World Finals 2014. Vic vs Alkolil.

Vic started strong but fatigue hit and lost his 2nd and 3rd rounds. Vic lost that battle.

Back to Silverback Open 2015. Victor vs Hong 10.
It was here the preparation came into effect. Vic was facing Hong 10, a two time BC One Champ, in the semi finals. Vic dominated the battle. Not once did he show signs of fatigue. His 2nd round was one of the best rounds I’ve ever seen him do.

VIC WON SILVERBACK OPEN 2015.

Vic kept preparing. Next up, Freestyle Session World Finals in Los Angeles California. He went into the event as the favorite with a certain buzz around him as bboys/bgirls took notice at what he could potentially achieve.

Vic defeated Kleju 4 rounds to 1 to claim the 2015 Freestyle Session World Title.

VIC WON FREESTYLE SESSION 2015.

A few days after declining the documentary. We decided to go ahead with it. At this point Vic had already won Silverback Open and was ready for Session and BC One. We figured there was no way the cameras or extra attention could interrupt the preparation. With that being said:

RED BULL PRESENTS: VICTOR MONTALVO – REMEMBER THE NAME.

Something I want to add. I (Mex) didn’t want to cry because Victor won BC One. I wanted to cry because it reminded me of why millions of immigrants (including my mom) leave everything behind and sacrifice. They do it to give their kids an opportunity for a better life.

Oh yea… VIC WON THE UNDISPUTED 2015 CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS EVENT.
